This site will be home to the Digital Transgender Archive (DTA), a database and clearinghouse for information on archival collections and historical materials related to transgender phenomena. The DTA will unfold in three stages: first, we will develop a searchable database of the transgender holdings of existing archival repositories in order to facilitate improved access to materials that are often hidden or invisible; second, we will digitize some of the most popular historical artifacts from those repositories, using enhanced access technologies when feasible; and third, we will create a space for collecting born-digital materials relevant to transgender history.
The DTA is being developed by K.J. Rawson (Assistant Professor of English at the College of the Holy Cross) in collaboration with a number of archivists, researchers, and independent scholars. Dr. Rawson is in the process of seeking grant funding with the hopes of launching a preliminary version of the site in late 2014. Feel free to email with questions, ideas, suggestions, or collaborative possibilities.
